Mutual acquaintance, renowned Northumberland fiddler Roddy Matthews, first introduced Paul to James when James was looking to add some accordion to his popular CD release “Long Journey Home”. Since then, they have been constantly gigging together, and have also worked on arranging their ever growing repertoire, most notably James’ own compositions, many of which are featured on this recording.
Whilst the melodies remain virtually unchanged, the harmonies are being constantly tweeked. With their love of Jazz and Blues, its unsurprising that many of the tracks feature the “Higher Chords” of the 9ths, 11ths and 13ths.
This recording also features a great diversity of styles and tempos, ranging from Slow Airs and Waltzes through to Marches and Jigs. Indeed. The final title track is a Rag, inspired by their love also of this genre.
There are 11 tracks on the CD, which also features David Little on the drums. David was also the recording engineer.
